Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Rajasthan Royals (RR) is a professional franchise team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), headquartered in Jaipur. The team is owned by Manoj Badale and the Royals Sports Group. Rajasthan Royals play their home matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and also at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium.
Under the captaincy of Shane Warne, RR won the inaugural IPL title in 2008. The team later finished as runners-up in the 2013 Champions League Twenty20, led by Rahul Dravid, and again in the 2022 IPL season under captain Sanju Samson, with Kumar Sangakkara serving as head coach. The franchise was suspended for two seasons (2016–17) due to a betting-related controversy but made a successful return to the league in 2018.
History
Rajasthan Royals were among the original eight teams when the IPL was launched in 2008. The franchise was initially purchased by Emerging Media for $67 million, making it the least expensive team at the time. As of 2024, the ownership includes minority stakeholders such as Lachlan Murdoch and RedBird Capital Partners, while the Royals Sports Group holds a majority stake. Over the years, the team has faced several ownership-related disputes, including a brief expulsion in 2010.
Home Ground
The Sawai Mansingh Stadium, with a seating capacity of around 24,000, serves as the primary home ground of the Rajasthan Royals. The stadium underwent renovation in 2006 and resumed hosting IPL matches for the franchise from the 2018 season after their suspension.
Team Overview
The Rajasthan Royals’ official colors are royal blue and pink, symbolizing energy, courage, and a sense of royalty. Their logo features a crown, representing leadership, strength, and the team’s competitive spirit. This visual identity reflects the franchise’s bold and innovative approach in the IPL.
