Punjab Kings (PBKS) is a professional Twenty20 cricket team based in New Chandigarh, Punjab, India. The team competes in the Indian Premier League. Its primary home ground is the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, while it has also hosted matches in Dharamshala and Indore.

The franchise is owned by a consortium that includes Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. The team was formerly known as Kings XI Punjab before being rebranded as Punjab Kings in 2021. It has reached the IPL final twice, finishing as runner-up in 2014 and 2025.

History

The Indian Premier League was established in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The Punjab-based franchise was acquired during the 2008 auction for approximately $76 million by a group of investors including Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Preity Zinta.

Initially named Kings XI Punjab, the team represented multiple regions including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir. In 2010, the franchise faced a temporary suspension due to ownership-related issues but was later reinstated after legal clearance. In 2021, the franchise officially rebranded as Punjab Kings.[1][2]

Home Ground

Punjab Kings primarily plays its home matches at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. The team has also used alternative venues such as Dharamshala and Indore for selected matches over the years.[3][4]
