History
The Board of Control for Cricket in India started the Indian Premier League in 2008 which received official recognition from the International Cricket Council. The league introduced a new system that divided cities into teams which changed the way T20 cricket was played throughout the entire world. The GMR Group spent around $84 million to acquire ownership of the Delhi franchise. The team began its existence under the name Delhi Daredevils but they failed to achieve permanent success during their first years despite having strong player lineups. The franchise underwent its first major change when JSW Sports acquired 50% ownership of the team in 2018. The partnership introduced new management techniques which helped the team develop its organizational structure while establishing a new strategic direction for future operations. The team gained its new identity as Delhi Capitals during a 2018 rebranding which represents the national pride and cultural identity of India’s capital city. The rebranding launched a new organizational period that established youth development programs which utilized data analysis to make decisions about building the team through time. The franchise owners have expanded their sports investments globally. The franchise expanded its international cricket presence through two acquisitions because it bought Hampshire County Cricket Club in England and 51% majority stake in Southern Brave.
