Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The team participates in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group owns. The Ekana Cricket Stadium serves as their primary home venue.

As of 2025, Rishabh Pant leads the team as captain while Justin Langer serves as coach and Zaheer Khan acts as mentor.

History

Lucknow Super Giants entered the IPL as a new team in 2022 which created two new franchises along with the Gujarat Titans. The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group purchased the franchise for ₹7,090 crore. The team name “Lucknow Super Giants” was selected through a public contest.

LSG at the 2022 IPL mega auction created a strong team by selecting players who included KL Rahul (captain) Quinton de Kock Mark Wood and Marcus Stoinis. The team participated in the match under the guidance of head coach Andy Flower and the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir.

LSG reached the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023 because of their successful performance as a new franchise. The team ended up in the seventh position for both 2024 and 2025 seasons. LSG remains an active IPL team that has not yet played in a championship match.

The team maintained its core group by keeping Nicholas Pooran Ayush Badoni Mohsin Khan Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav before the 2025 mega auction. The organization signed Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore who became their new captain while Zaheer Khan took over as mentor.

LSG has become one of the most popular IPL teams within a brief time period which has resulted in more than 5 million social media followers by 2025.[1][2][3]

Home Ground

The Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow serves as the home ground for the team. LSG had to play their matches in Maharashtra during the 2022 season because COVID-19 restrictions prevented them from using their home stadium.

The team has used Ekana Stadium as their match venue since 2023 because fans create a lively atmosphere through their Bhojpuri song celebrations and their traditional local cultural displays. [4][5]
