Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The team competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is owned by the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. Their home ground is the Ekana Cricket Stadium.

As of 2025, the team is captained by Rishabh Pant, coached by Justin Langer, and mentored by Zaheer Khan.

History

Lucknow Super Giants were introduced in 2022 as one of two new IPL franchises, alongside the Gujarat Titans. The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group secured the franchise for ₹7,090 crore. The team name “Lucknow Super Giants” was selected through a public contest.

At the 2022 IPL mega auction, LSG built a strong squad featuring players like KL Rahul (captain), Quinton de Kock, Mark Wood, and Marcus Stoinis. The team was coached by Andy Flower, with Gautam Gambhir serving as mentor.

Despite being a relatively new franchise, LSG made an immediate impact by reaching the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023. However, they finished 7th in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Notably, LSG remains one of the active IPL teams yet to reach a final.

Ahead of the 2025 mega auction, the team retained Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Mayank Yadav. They also signed Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore, appointing him as captain, while Zaheer Khan took over as mentor.

In a short span, LSG has gained immense popularity, becoming one of the most followed IPL teams, with over 5 million followers on social media by 2025.

Home Ground

The team’s home venue is the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. During the 2022 season, due to COVID-19 restrictions, LSG could not play at their home ground, and matches were held in Maharashtra.

Since 2023, the team has hosted matches at Ekana Stadium, where fans create a vibrant atmosphere, often celebrating with Bhojpuri songs and local cultural elements.

Team Overview

The Lucknow Super Giants logo features a vibrant mix of blue, orange, yellow, green, and red shades. These colors symbolize energy, diversity, and the dynamic spirit of the team in the IPL.
