Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur is an Indian International cricketer. He plays for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Thakur who bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace is recognized for his complete cricketing skills because he has made important contributions to both one-day matches and Test match cricket. He was part of the Indian squad that won the Asia Cup in 2018 and 2023.[1][2]
Early Life
Shardul Thakur was born in 16 October 1991. His early life and family background remain unknown but he spent his childhood in Mumbai where his passion for cricket began which resulted in him joining local cricket clubs and ultimately entering the Mumbai cricket system.
Career
Shardul Thakur works as an all-rounder because he can perform well when he bats and when he bowls. He has played for India in three formats of international cricket which include Tests ODIs and T20Is and he has played vital roles in domestic matches and the IPL. His career achievements include winning crucial matches and performing well in domestic competitions while his international reputation continues to grow.
Domestic Career
Thakur achieved domestic success after he spent time improving his fitness and work capacity which enabled him to join the Mumbai domestic team despite his shorter height and his initial fitness issues which critics identified.[3][4]
He made his first-class debut in November 2012 against Rajasthan during the 2012–13 Ranji Trophy. At first he had difficulty playing because he could only get four wickets from his first four games while his bowling average reached 82.0. He showed improvement throughout the season by achieving 27 wickets during his six matches which included a five-wicket performance. In 2014-15 he achieved 48 wickets through ten matches which included five instances of five-wicket hauls to become one of the most important bowlers for Mumbai.
Thakur made his List A debut for Mumbai on 27 February 2014 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He helped Mumbai win their 41st Ranji Trophy title by taking eight wickets against Saurashtra during the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy final.
International Career
Thakur received his initial Test call-up for India during the 2016 Test series against West Indies but did not participate in any matches. He started his ODI career on 31 August 2017 against Sri Lanka and made his T20I debut on 21 February 2018 against South Africa.
He started his limited-overs career wearing jersey number 10 which belonged to Sachin Tendulkar but afterward he decided to wear 54 because of public backlash.
Thakur achieved Man of the Match status during the Nidahas Trophy when he performed well against Sri Lanka by taking 4 wickets while giving up 27 runs. He finished the competition by taking six wickets across five matches.
Thakur made his Test debut in October 2018 against West Indies but his match ended after 10 deliveries because of a groin injury. His all-round potential became evident when he scored 67 runs and took seven wickets during the historic Gabba Test against Australia.
He received recognition for his performance during the 2021 England tour because he achieved fast half-centuries and took important wickets. The South African Test match in January 2022 marked his first five-wicket haul when he achieved 7/61 while establishing the record for best bowling figures by an Indian against South Africa in Tests. Thakur performed strongly in the ODI series against New Zealand in January 2023 by taking six wickets and winning Player of the Match honors during the third ODI.
IPL Career
Thakur started his IPL career in 2015 when he joined Kings XI Punjab. His next teams after Kings XI Punjab included Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017 and Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2022 and Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023.
Chennai Super Kings acquired him for ₹10.75 crore in 2022 and he became one of their main bowlers while leading the team in wicket achievements. The player joined Lucknow Super Giants in 2025 after signing a ₹2 crore reserve contract. Thakur moved to Mumbai Indians through a trade before the 2026 IPL season.[5]

Personal Life
Thakur and Mittali Parulkar became engaged in November 2021 and they officially married on 27 February 2023. Although he leads a private life he shares his activities through social media platforms.
