Rohit Sharma
Rohit Gurunath Sharma is an Indian international cricketer. He plays as a right-handed top-order batter for Mumbai in domestic cricket while representing Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is widely regarded as one of the greatest limited-overs batters and holds multiple world records which include his highest individual score of 264 in ODIs and his record of three double centuries in ODI cricket.[1][2]

Early Life
Rohit Sharma was born in 30 April 1987 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His parents lived in Dombivli but he stayed with his grandparents and relatives in Borivali, Mumbai because his family had financial problems. His father Gurunath Sharma worked as a caretaker in a transport company while his mother Purnima Sharma came from Visakhapatnam.[4]
He developed an interest in cricket at a young age and joined a cricket camp in 1999 with the support of his uncle. His coach Dinesh Lad discovered his batting skills and used them to help him obtain a scholarship at Swami Vivekanand International School which provided him with professional training that led to his success in school competitions.[5]
Education
Rohit Sharma completed his schooling at Swami Vivekanand International School, Mumbai, where he focused on cricket alongside academics. He developed his skills under coach Dinesh Lad who helped him create the professional foundation he would need for his upcoming career.
Career
Rohit Sharma has transformed from his beginnings as a domestic cricket player to achieve success as an international cricketer and captain. His ability to play elegant shots and score multiple centuries has made him a vital player for Indian cricket during his successful career in all three cricket formats.[6]
Domestic Career
Sharma started his List A career in 2005 when he played for West Zone during the Deodhar Trophy and achieved recognition through his exceptional 142-run performance. He made his first-class debut in 2006 for India A and later for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, where he scored 205 against Gujarat. He became a key player for Mumbai cricket because he played main batting positions in the team and he took charge of domestic matches as captain.[7]
International Career
Rohit Sharma started his international career in 2007 when he played his first ODI match against Ireland and he later joined the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup. His career reached a turning point in 2013 when he secured his first opening batting position after he experienced difficulties to maintain batting success. He achieved multiple achievements during his career which included three ODI double centuries and a 264-run match against Sri Lanka which set a new record.
He scored five centuries during the 2019 Cricket World Cup which became the most centuries achieved by a player in one tournament and he finished as the top run-scorer for the entire competition. His leadership brought multiple championship victories to India which included the 2018 Asia Cup and 2023 Asia Cup and 2024 ICC T20 World Cup championship win.
His successful Test career included multiple centuries that he scored during his debut matches and he became India's Test captain in 2022. He finished his Test career in 2025 after he announced his retirement from the format.
Indian Premier League (IPL) Career
Rohit Sharma started his career in the Indian Premier League when he played for Deccan Chargers during the 2008 season but moved to Mumbai Indians three years later. He achieved five IPL championship titles through his role as captain of the Mumbai Indians from 2013 until 2020 which established him as one of the most successful IPL captains together with MS Dhoni. He has scored more than 7000 runs during his IPL career which makes him one of the top run scorers in the league.

Rohit Sharma has made significant contributions to cricket through his work as a player and his responsibilities as a leader. He established himself as an opening batsman who revolutionized the batting position through his ability to achieve double century scores in limited-overs matches. Personal Life
Rohit Sharma married his longtime girlfriend Ritika Sajdeh on 13 December 2015. The couple has two children, a daughter born in 2018 and a son born in 2024. Sharma practices Sahaj Marg meditation while he keeps a healthy life balance throughout his cricket career.[8]
