Ayush Yogesh Mhatre is an Indian professional cricketer who plays as a right-handed opening batter and right-arm offbreak bowler. He represents Mumbai cricket team in domestic cricket and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Mhatre became the youngest player to score 150-plus runs in men's List A cricket and captained the India Under-19 team to win the 2026 U19 World Cup.[1] [2]

Early Life & Education

Ayush Mhatre was born in Nallasopara, Maharashtra, India, into a Marathi-speaking family. He began playing cricket at the age of six and pursued professional training from the age of fifteen. To attend training sessions, he regularly traveled approximately 80 kilometers from Virar to Churchgate.[3][4]

Career

Youth and Under-19 Career

Mhatre represented the India Under-19 team in 2024 and 2025. He captained the side during the 2025 tour of England, where India won the Youth ODI series 3–2. On the Australian tour, India won the Youth ODI series 3–0 and the Youth Test series 2–0 under his leadership. He led India to victory in the 2026 U19 World Cup, scoring 214 runs across seven matches, including half-centuries in the semi-final against Afghanistan and the final against England.

Domestic Career

Ayush made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2024 Irani Cup at age 17. He scored his maiden first-class century, 176 runs, against Maharashtra in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy. In December 2024, he became the youngest player in men's List A cricket history to score 150+ runs, surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s previous record.

Indian Premier League (IPL)

In 2025, Mhatre joined Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. He debuted on 20 April 2025 against Mumbai Indians, scoring 32 runs from 15 balls. On 3 May 2025, he scored 94 runs from 48 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He ended the season with 240 runs at a strike rate of 188.97, establishing himself as a fearless top-order batter.[5]
