Tripura
Tripura is a state in the northeastern part of India, famous for its cultural heritage, tribal culture, and natural beauty. It is one of the smallest states in India in terms of geographical area. Etymology
The name “Tripura” is thought to have been derived from the name of the ancient king named Tripur, who is mentioned in historical records, or from the name of Goddess Tripura Sundari, who is revered in this region.
History
The history of Tripura is significant. It was under the Manikya kingdom for many centuries. The kingdom was instrumental in developing the culture of the state.
During the British period, Tripura was a princely state under indirect British control. After the independence of India in 1947, Tripura was merged with the Indian Union in 1949. In the year 1972, Tripura was declared a state.
