Heinrich Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen is a South African cricketer who played for the South Africa national team from 2018 to 2025. He is known for his aggressive batting and strong power-hitting which he used throughout his limited-overs cricket career. He played professional cricket in franchise leagues which included his work in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team.[1][2]
Early Life
Heinrich Klaasen was born in Pretoria which is located in South Africa. He developed an interest in cricket at a young age and played in school-level tournaments.
Education
He studied at Hoërskool Menlopark which served as a well-known sports institution. Later, he attended the University of Pretoria to develop his cricketing abilities.
Career
Klaasen made his domestic debut in 2012 for Northerns. He performed well in South Africa’s domestic tournaments like the Sunfoil Series and Momentum One Day Cup.
He joined the Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL during the 2018 season. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore later on.
He became a key batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad after they acquired him in 2023. He achieved multiple T20 league centuries during his career.[3]
He made his ODI debut for South Africa against India on 7 February 2018. He made his T20I debut on 18 February 2018 and Test debut in 2019.
He achieved his first ODI century in 2020 during his match against Australia. He served as South Africa's T20I captain in the 2021 season.
He participated in the 2021 and 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournaments. He ended his Test cricket career in January 2024. He announced his international cricket retirement on 2 June 2025.[4]
