Harshal Patel is an Indian cricketer. He plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has represented India in T20 international matches. He is a right-arm medium pace bowler and a right-handed batsman.

Early Life

Harshal was born on 23 November 1990 in India. He began his cricket career during his childhood years. He achieved 23 wickets during the 2008-09 Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy competition. He relocated from Gujarat to Haryana in order to obtain better chances for first-class cricket opportunities.[1]

Career

Harshal made his List A debut for Gujarat during the 2009-10 cricket season. He joined Haryana cricket team where his outstanding Ranji Trophy performances reached their peak when he took multiple wickets during key matches.

Harshal played for various IPL teams which included Royal Challengers Bangalore Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings before he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad. His biggest breakthrough occurred during IPL 2021 when he delivered an exceptional performance throughout the entire season.[2]

His major achievements include:

Taking a 5-wicket haul (5/27) against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021, becoming the first bowler to achieve this against them. Taking a hat-trick for RCB in the same season against Mumbai Indians. Finishing IPL 2021 with 32 wickets, making him the highest wicket-taker of the season and equaling the record of Dwayne Bravo.

He made his T20I debut for India on 19 November 2021 against New Zealand and impressed immediately by taking two wickets and winning the Player of the Match award. He continued to perform well in the series and later became part of India’s squad for other T20 matches, including the series against Ireland in 2022.[3]

RCB acquired him during the IPL 2022 auction for ₹10.75 crores which demonstrated his worth as a bowler. Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him for ₹8 crores during the 2025 IPL auction.[4] [5]

Personal Life

Harshal Patel went through a difficult time when his elder sister passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic. He took a break from IPL 2021 to attend her last rites. His family has always supported his cricket career, and his brother played an important role in helping him stay in India to pursue his cricket career.
