Eshan Malinga
Eshan Malinga whose full name is Kiribathgala Kankanamalage Eshan Malinga Dharmasena, is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He plays international cricket for Sri Lanka as a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He has also played in franchise leagues like the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Early Life
Eshan Malinga was born on 4 February 2001 in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka. He began his cricket journey at Sivali Central College in Ratnapura, where he developed his skills at a young age.
Career
Eshan began his cricket career at school level before moving into domestic cricket. He made his List A debut for Ragama Cricket Club in July 2022, his Twenty20 debut in May 2022, and his first-class debut in September 2022.
He built his reputation through consistent domestic cricket performances which showcased his ability to take wickets by using his fast bowling and his skill to move the ball. He achieved more than 40 wickets during his initial phase of first-class matches which included one five-wicket performance.
He made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Sri Lanka against New Zealand in January 2025 and showed impressive bowling abilities. He later made his T20I debut and was included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Indian Premier League
Eshan Malinga was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2025 IPL auction for ₹1.20 crore. He completed an outstanding initial season by taking 13 wickets during 7 matches while establishing himself as a dependable bowler for his team.
Sunrisers Hyderabad decided to keep him on their roster because of his outstanding performance during the 2026 IPL season.
