Abhishek Sharma is an Indian cricketer.He plays as a left-handed opening batter and occasional left-arm spinner. He grew up in a cricket-loving family with his two older sisters, and he attended Delhi Public School in Amritsar. Shubman Gill and he became childhood friends, who played together as opening batsmen for Punjab under-14 teams. He received coaching from Yuvraj Singh during the COVID-19 lockdown, which helped him improve his skills. [1]

Early Life

Abhishek Sharma was born on 4 September 2000 in Amritsar Punjab India to Raj Kumar and Manju Sharma. He has two older sisters. From a young age, he loved cricket and played with friends. He has known Shubman Gill since childhood because they played together as openers for Punjab under-14 teams. During the COVID-19 lockdown, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh helped him with coaching to improve his skills.[2]

Education

Sharma went to Delhi Public School in Amritsar. He began his cricket training while studying because he wanted to become a professional player. The coaching he received during school years and lockdown helped him develop into a strong batter

Career

Sharma started his cricket career in domestic tournaments. He scored a century in his first under-16 match in the 2015–16 Vijay Merchant Trophy and later played for India U19. He led India U19 to win the 2016 U19 Asia Cup and participated in the 2018 U19 World Cup championship team. He made his first-class debut for Punjab in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy. He also played in domestic T20 tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy which included his record-breaking batting performances.

Sharma began his IPL career when Delhi Daredevils selected him in 2018 and he later moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2022. He achieved multiple fast half-centuries and centuries while he established the record for most sixes in a single season with SRH. He achieved his first IPL century in 2025 against Punjab Kings when he scored 141 runs from 55 balls which stands as the highest score by an Indian in IPL history for his team.[3]

Sharma is known for his aggressive and fast batting style. He has established records in both domestic and international cricket which include his achievement of the fastest T20I century by an Indian. He played important roles for India during T20I matches and the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 T20 World Cup final. He also inspires young cricketers with his hard work and determination.

Awards and Recognition

Sharma has received many awards and achievements for his cricket performances. He was named the Player of the Tournament in the 2025 Asia Cup. In the 2024 IPL season, he hit the most sixes for his team, with a total of 42 sixes. He became the youngest Indian to reach the number one T20I batter ranking in 2025. He also achieved the highest-ever T20I rating points in history, with a total of 931 points.

Sharma maintains a deep bond with his family while he shares a strong friendship with Shubman Gill. He dedicates his leisure time to cricket training and social media activities. He displays a friendly and humble character which people recognize as his main personal trait.
