Boult maintains his status as one of his generation's top fast bowlers through his ongoing participation in global Twenty20 leagues.[1][2]

Early Life

Trent Boult was born in 22 July 1989 Rotorua New Zealand in 1989. He spent his childhood years in Ōhope and Tauranga while attending Otumoetai College. He has a younger brother named Jono Boult who also plays cricket. [3]

Career

Boult is considered one of New Zealand's greatest fast bowlers. He established himself as a primary strike bowler through his ability to deliver left-arm swinging balls and precise seam pitches across all cricket formats. His dual-sided swinging ability which enables him to achieve early wickets makes him essential for Test matches One Day Internationals and T20 formats. Boult has achieved outstanding results in T20 leagues throughout the world which includes his performances in both the Indian Premier League and Global T20 tournaments.

Domestic & T20 Franchise Career

Boult established himself as a dominant force through his achievements in domestic cricket and T20 franchise competitions. The IPL marked his entry into professional cricket when he joined Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2015 season after earning a $600000 salary due to his outstanding World Cup performance. He joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017 through a 5 crore INR contract and then played for Delhi Capitals from 2018 until 2019. Boult played for Toronto Nationals during the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament and he joined Mumbai Indians during the 2020 IPL season where his performance helped the team win the championship as he took 25 wickets and won the Player of the Season title. His best performance in IPL bowling occurred when he achieved 4/18 against Chennai Super Kings in 2020. The Rajasthan Royals acquired him in 2022 and he returned to Mumbai Indians in November 2024 for the 2025 IPL season while he finished as the second-most successful wicket taker in the league behind Jasprit Bumrah.[4]

International Career

Boult made his international debut for New Zealand in Tests in December 2011 against Australia, helping secure New Zealand’s first Test win in Australia since 1985. His first ODI appearance took place during July 2012. Boult quickly established himself as a leading strike bowler, forming a lethal opening partnership with Tim Southee. He shared the title of leading wicket-taker during the 2015 Cricket World Cup while becoming the first New Zealander to achieve a Cricket World Cup hat-trick in 2019. Boult has achieved multiple five-wicket hauls in both Tests and ODIs and crossed 300 Test wickets in January 2022. He ended his international cricket career in 2024 after New Zealand lost to T20 World Cup group stage match.

Bowling and Fielding Style

Boult bowls fast-paced left-arm deliveries at medium speed while using swing techniques and his deceptive 140-kilometer-per-hour speed. His inswinger to right-handed batsmen is his primary weapon, and he can swing the ball both ways. Boult demonstrates his exceptional fielding skills through his ability to make one-handed diving catches. He has formed one of New Zealand’s best new-ball partnerships with Tim Southee and is complemented by Neil Wagner’s short left-arm seam deliveries.

Awards and Recognition

Trent Boult has achieved widespread acclaim because of his outstanding athletic achievements. The 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship title was won by New Zealand because he played an essential role on their team. Boult shared the title of leading wicket-taker at the 2015 Cricket World Cup because he showed his ability to succeed during important competitive events. He has received the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal which recognizes him as New Zealand's best international player and he has won New Zealand Cricket Men's Test Player of the Year award because of his outstanding performance in Test cricket.
