He has led India during Test matches and T20 International matches while becoming the first bowler to reach the No. 1 position in all three formats of the ICC Men's Player Rankings. He plays domestic cricket for the Gujarat cricket team and competes in the Indian Premier League for the Mumbai Indians franchise.

Early Life

Bumrah was born in 6 December 1993 Ahmedabad, Gujarat, into a Punjabi Sikh family. His father, Jasbir Singh, owned a chemical business, while his mother, Daljeet Bumrah, was a school teacher. When Bumrah was five years old his father passed away and his mother raised him in their small home.

Education

He completed his schooling at Nirman High School in Ahmedabad, where his mother worked as vice principal. Bumrah began to play cricket as a competitive sport after he developed his passion for the game during his time at school.

Career

Bumrah started his professional cricket career when he joined the Gujarat cricket team for the 2012–13 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His distinctive bowling technique and his ability to win matches made an immediate impact on the competition. His outstanding play in the final match enabled Gujarat to secure their first championship title. The Mumbai Indians recognized his skills and signed him in 2013 for the Indian Premier League. Since then, Bumrah has become a vital part of the franchise, playing a key role in their five title victories and emerging as one of their highest wicket-takers.

Bumrah first appeared in international competition when he played for India against Australia during their 2016 tour. He demonstrated his fast bowling skills through his ability to deliver precise throws during high-pressure situations. He quickly established himself as India’s leading fast bowler in limited-overs cricket. He made his Test debut against the South Africa national cricket team in 2018 and demonstrated his ability to succeed in international cricket through his outstanding performances during international matches. He has reached multiple career achievements which include becoming the fastest Indian fast bowler to achieve 200 Test wickets and reaching 100 ODI wickets within the shortest time frame. Rohit Sharma’s absence from the team allowed Bumrah to take command of the Test and T20I matches as India’s captain.

His career reached its peak when he participated in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup because he helped India win the championship title while he earned Player of the Tournament because of his outstanding bowling skills. His ability to perform during critical moments of the game, especially during death overs, has established him as one of the most essential players throughout the world cricket community.
