Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is an Indian cricketer. He plays for the Indian national team. He performs his all-around duties by executing fast bowling while batting in the middle order with his right hand and bowling at fast-medium speeds. He stands among the top all-rounders who play white-ball cricket.
Pandya is the first fast-bowling all-rounder in T20 Internationals to achieve the milestone of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets. His current role involves leading the Mumbai Indians team in the IPL while he plays for Baroda in domestic cricket. He has also served as India's captain for white-ball matches while holding the position of vice-captain during the team's victory at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Early Life
Hardik Pandya was born in 11 October 1993 in Choryasi, Surat, Gujarat. His father Himanshu Pandya worked as a small businessman who later moved the family to Vadodara to provide better cricket training opportunities. Pandya trained at Kiran More's cricket academy along with his brother Krunal Pandya. The family struggled financially which forced them to live in basic conditions while they used a second-hand car as their primary means of transportation. Pandya started his cricket career as a leg-spinner but his coach recommended that he change to fast bowling when he turned 18.
Hardik Pandya has established himself as one of India's most significant all-rounders who can play during all three formats of the sport. Pandya has made himself into a crucial player for contemporary Indian cricket through his powerful batting style and his skilled fast-medium bowling and his vigorous fielding abilities.
Career
He started his professional career at Baroda through domestic cricket before achieving recognition in the Indian Premier League because of his successful performances with the Mumbai Indians which led to his first national team selection in 2016. Since that time he has produced multiple match-winning displays for the Indian national cricket team which he has done through his participation in T20 international matches and one day internationals and test matches.
Domestic Career
Pandya has played for Baroda since 2013. In the 2013-14 season, he played an essential role which helped Baroda achieve victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His explosive batting performances quickly brought him into the spotlight in domestic cricket.
Indian Premier League (IPL)
Pandya started his IPL journey with Mumbai Indians in 2015 which led to his recognition as a key player who could win matches for his team. Gujarat Titans selected him in 2022 and appointed him as their team captain. He led the team to their maiden IPL title in their debut season, becoming the first captain since Shane Warne to achieve this feat. T20 International (T20I) Career
Pandya made his T20I debut for India on 27 January 2016 against Australia.
Pandya became widely recognized through his performance in the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 tournament which included his famous last-over delivery against Bangladesh.
In 2022, he led the Indian team as T20I captain while achieving remarkable success during his matches which included an England game in which he scored a half-century and took four wickets.
2024 T20 World Cup
Pandya served as vice-captain in India’s victorious campaign at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He played a major role in the game through his batting and bowling skills, which included his important final over performance during the championship match.
One Day International (ODI) Career
Pandya made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2016 and was named Player of the Match.
He played a key innings in the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and received ESPNcricinfo's recognition as one of the best ODI players for the year.
Test Career
Pandya made his Test debut in 2017 against Sri Lanka. He achieved his first Test century at Pallekele while establishing a record for India at that time by scoring 26 runs during one over of a Test innings.
