Romario Shepherd is a Guyanese cricketer. He plays for the Guyana cricket team in domestic cricket and represents the West Indies cricket team in international cricket. He made his international debut for West Indies in November 2019 as a right-arm fast bowler and power-hitting lower-order batsman who later developed into an essential all-rounder for limited-overs cricket. Romario Shepherd was born in 26 November 1994 Guyana. He developed his fast bowling and all-rounder abilities through local and regional competitions because he grew up in a cricket-loving environment.

Career

Romario Shepherd is known for his ability to bowl fast and his ability to hit hard from the lower batting order. He gained attention in regional tournaments after he performed consistently in Guyana's domestic circuit. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball has made him a key player in franchise leagues and the West Indies national team.

Domestic and Franchise Career

Shepherd began his List A career with the Guyana cricket team in January 2016 when he faced the Leeward Islands during the Regional Super50 tournament. He achieved his first match victory by taking 3/37 in his debut performance.[2]

He made his first-class debut in March 2017 during the Regional Four Day Competition. From 2018 to 2020 he played his first T20 match for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors selected him for the Caribbean Premier League in July 2020. Karachi Kings signed him for Pakistan Super League in December 2021.

In 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him for their Indian Premier League team. Later, he also represented Chattogram Challengers in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed him before IPL 2025. In a match against Chennai Super Kings, he scored a record-breaking half-century off just 14 balls, the fastest ever by an RCB player and among the fastest in IPL history. His explosive innings included 32 runs in one over and 20 runs in the final over, helping his team post a winning total.[3]

International Career

In October 2019, Shepherd was named in the West Indies ODI squad for a series against Afghanistan. He made his ODI debut on 6 November 2019. In January 2020, he was included in the T20I squad for the series against Ireland and made his debut on 18 January 2020.

In November 2023, he was named in the ODI squad for a series against England, where he delivered an all-round performance in the first match. He was chosen to compete at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in May 2024. The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 West Indies squad included him in January 2026.[4]
