Gujarat Titans is a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise based in Ahmedabad, competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Established in 2021, the franchise quickly became one of the most successful new teams in IPL history.
The team plays its home matches at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. The franchise is owned by Torrent Group (majority stake) and CVC Capital Partners. As of recent seasons, the team is captained by Shubman Gill and coached by Ashish Nehra.
History & Formation
In 2021, the IPL expanded from eight to ten teams. The Ahmedabad franchise was acquired by CVC Capital Partners for ₹5,625 crore.
Ahead of the 2022 season, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was appointed captain. The team was officially named “Gujarat Titans” in February 2022.
GT made an immediate impact by winning the IPL 2022 Final in their debut season under Pandya’s leadership. They continued their strong performance by reaching the IPL 2023 Final, finishing as runners-up.
In February 2025, Torrent Group acquired a 67% stake in the franchise, while CVC Capital Partners retained 33%.
