MS Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoniis an Indian former international cricketer. He achieved great success as a captain throughout his cricketing career. The nickname "Captain Cool" describes Dhoni's ability to maintain composure during matches, which has made him one of the top finishers in limited-overs cricket. He became the first captain to lead India to victories in all three ICC major tournaments when he guided the team to success at the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 Cricket World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batsman who achieved international success through his 17000 runs and 829 dismissals represents one of the greatest players in his position.
Early Life
Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 in Ranchi, Bihar (now Jharkhand) into a Rajput family. His father Pan Singh Dhoni worked at MECON and his mother Devaki Devi stayed home. As a child Dhoni showed high energy levels while he took pleasure in playing various sports. He started his athletic career as a football goalkeeper before he decided to play cricket in his school years. He joined the Commando Cricket Club in Ranchi, where his potential as a batsman and wicketkeeper was first noticed.[1] [2][3] [4]
Education
Dhoni completed his schooling at DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi, where he actively participated in sports. Dhoni started his college education at St Xavier's College Ranchi but chose to leave the school when domestic cricket and coaching camp opportunities presented themselves. Dhoni developed self-control and determination through his cricketing career after he dropped out of formal college education.
Career
Before becoming a professional cricket player Dhoni worked as a ticket examiner (TTE) at Kharagpur Railway Station where he managed his work schedule together with his training activities.
Domestic Career
Dhoni made his domestic debut for Bihar in 1999 and he played for Jharkhand after the state gained its official status. National selectors recognized his batting skills and wicketkeeping abilities because he played aggressively while maintaining dependable performance behind the stumps.[5] [6]

He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (2007–08) which stands as India’s top sports award and he obtained the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2018 for his exceptional work in Indian cricket. The ICC Hall of Fame inducted him in 2025 after he earned ICC ODI Player of the Year honors in both 2008 and 2009. Dhoni married Sakshi Rawat in 2010. The couple has one daughter named Ziva. He holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army.
