Domestic Career

First-Class Cricket: He made his debut for Mumbai during the 2007–08 Ranji Trophy at 19 years old and scored 143 runs in his first match. He achieved his highest score of 265 runs against Hyderabad during the 2009–10 season and he surpassed 1000 runs during three Ranji Trophy seasons. List A Cricket: He made his first appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy during 2007 and he formed important partnerships with players such as Wasim Jaffer. He gained experience in international cricket through his participation in India U-19, India A, India Blue, and India Green teams before joining the senior national team. He led Mumbai to victory in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy and he achieved the same result with India C during the Deodhar Trophy. He guided Mumbai to win the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy championship.

International Career

Test Debut: March 2013 vs Australia at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. He achieved his first Test century at Basin Reserve Wellington during a 2014 match against New Zealand. ODI Debut: 2011 vs England at Chester-le-Street. The player made important contributions to the Indian team during the important series but he was unable to maintain steady performance in the middle batting position. T20I Debut: August 2011 vs England at Old Trafford, Manchester. The player scored 61 runs from 39 balls during his first T20I match. The player took on the role of Test team captain in six matches which resulted in four victories and two tied matches. The player achieved a major achievement for India by leading the team to its first Test series win in Australia which occurred during the 2020–21 season when they won at The Gabba after 32 years.

The player possesses exceptional skills for managing critical situations while maintaining team batting stability. The player helped India secure Test match victories against overseas opponents while accomplishing the team's historic series triumphs.
